American Flag

A sign of freedom/ yet/ so many are blinded by their own problems/ so freedom to them/ is well beneath them/ a sign of hope/ yet/ are inner cities are flooded by that white dope/ everyone reaching for the mountains peak/ yet/ when it comes to homeless veterans/ they turn the other check/ a sign of patriotism/ but when look at from the other spectrum/ its dog eat dog/ capitalism/ banks running the system/ while most turn the blind eye/ a land of the free/ or a land of ternary/ see most speak out of context/ since most never experienced it/ seeing kids strapped in bombs/ others starving/ wishing they had running water/ they live over there/ so why bother/ but when it reaches our coast/ now its our problem/ look at Harlem/ look at Compton/ even Miami Dade/ not to far where I'm from/ a sign of liberty/ easily/ displayed by a women wearing a crown carrying a torch/ yet/ they lose sight of the families force to foreclose/ find themselves sleeping in someones else's porch/ see we hustle/ hustle/ hustle hard/ some do it for money/ others simply not to starve/ the great red white and blue/ some see a powerful symbol/ why others cant wait for it to lose/ i choose to stand up/ embrace/ breath/ bleed/ this symbol that waves so freely/ in the wind/ knowing it has its secrets/ as we all do/ knowing it has past mistakes/ as we all do/ from slaves to segregation/ from drones to immigration/ from cover up interpretations/ from dirty politicians to suspicious traditions/ all an all i except my coalition dispositions/ why/ cause I'm an American/ who would sacrifice himself for this symbol we call a flag/ and what its colors really mean without hashtags/ white signifies purity and innocence/ red signifies/ valor and hardiness/ blue signifies justice/ perseverance & vigilance/ take a second to soak it all up/ and what those words really mean to some of us/ those stars and strips/ I would defend/ die/ and fight/ thats my American Flag/ and what it means to me/ now you choose your route/ your delights/ - SABO
